Napa Valley Restaurants

Friends have asked for a list of places to dine in the Napa Valley. We thought that visitors to The Artisan might also be interested in our response.  For those of you who may be visiting there this coming Summer, and need to make reservations, we have provided the requisite information for you .  All of these restaurants are very popular.  Reservations need to be make weeks and occasionally months in advance.

We have eaten at all of them and can say with some certainty that you will find them to be excellent.  Of course, we cannot assure you that you will enjoy them as much as we do, because your taste buds and ours may be quite different. Should you like more details or additional information, click on the link to The Napa Valley web site we have provided.

The Cantinetta, on the Tra Vigne property at 1050 Charter Oak Ave., St. Helena is a great place.  The Cantinetta opens at 11:30 AM and is enjoyable either for lunch or a between meals snack.

Tomatina is a pizza and pasta restaurant.   This restaurant has also been  developed by Michael Chiarello (the Chef/partner of Tra Vigne) and is located just past the Tra Vigne property at the Inn at Southbridge.  The pizze are fairly good.  The pasta is not.

While in the Napa Valley, people interested in food and its preparation  may be interested in a visit to The Culinary Academy of America at Greystone (CIA)  (Details below) Additionally,  they have a lovely terrace where you can get a glass of wine, relax, and enjoy the view of the valley floor below.  We would not suggest eating at the CIA, other than from the appetizer menu.  The CIA also has a large store which includes foodstuffs, cooking and baking equipment and utensils, books, etc.

A visit to Napa Valley Olive Oil  is a must when in or near St. Helena.  They have excellent California Extra Virgin Olive Oil.  They also have many other food  products, especially unique Italian cheeses. It is a comfortable place for a picnic style lunch or snack.

New to St Helena is Dean & DeLucca on Highway 29.  Goods are horribly overpriced, but there are items here that are difficult if not impossible to find elsewhere. Similarly, the Oakville Grocery is THE place to stop for picnic supplies.  It will be a very good and a very expensive picnic! the Oakville grocery has been in the Napa Valley for quite some time, and has recently expanded to Healdsburg, CA.
